TruckWings Device Improves Efficiency by 6.2% on Diesel Class 8 Day Cab Tractor

March 7, 2024 | ConMet

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Mar. 07, 2024 – MVT Solutions (MVTS), a provider of fuel economy testing and design and development services for the trucking industry, announced that ConMet’s TruckWings™ technology showed a fuel savings of 6.61 gallons per 1,000 miles (6.2%) on a diesel-powered Class 8 day cab tractor with a 53-foot dry van trailer. The TruckWings device did this by closing the 45.9-inch gap between the tractor cab extenders and the front of the trailer.

“The TruckWings product has shown to provide major savings on day cabs, equating to 826 gallons of fuel and 8.41 metric tons CO2 for a tractor traveling 125,000 miles annually,” says Daryl Bear, lead engineer and chief operating officer of MVT Solutions.

The MVTS tests were conducted on 2023 Volvo VNL 6×2 diesel-powered day cabs with Volvo D13N-405 engines and ATF2612F 12-speed transmissions. The trailers were 53-foot Strick vans, and the gross vehicle weight was approximately 45,000 pounds.

“With upcoming regulations around diesel trucks and emissions, it’s important for fleets to find a solution that’s easy to implement and is effective. That’s where TruckWings technology comes in,” says Daniel Burrows, VP and General Manager of TruckWings at ConMet. “While not surprised, we’re thrilled these results confirm yet again how much TruckWings devices can help fleets – and the environment.”
